Day One Thoughts
A return to blogging
I thought this would be a nice thing to look back on, so, have my stream of consciousness notes from my first day as a bookshop owner.
Door is open!
Omg no one is going to come
Oh someone came already!
Oh more people are here now
And buying books!
I love that everyone whispers in a bookshop
Oh people are filming me
And filming the shop!
I’m trying to say hi to everyone but people are very quietly looking at things
Ooh that girl has got a STACK of books
I should order more Mushroom Tapes
I wonder if it’s weird to take a photo of people here
I think it’ll be weird
Oh an hour is already gone
People are so excited!
Lots of event questions - have to get on with booking some January things in soon
Met a poet!
Met a baby!
Oop the wifi’s gone patchy
Sold a cap! She picked the Resist Psychic Death one because “it speaks to my soul.”
“Everything you have here is so interesting”
Bookstagrammers are bookstagramming!
Two hours in and the shop is empty for the first time since 10am, so I’m going to run round and tidy up
Ok do some ordering
Daniel going to bring me a snack
Sharlene Allsopp came in and said the shop was beautiful and my “curation was amazing” and signed books!
Daniel brought me a Kitkat and a coke
Daniel gone again
It’s going so well!
Very quiet browsers taking pics
Sold some mini Silver Press books!
“Oh my god your taste is excellent, you know it’s good when you walk in and see Sofia Coppola”
People are instagramming more!!
Huge flowers from Lynn! The delivery guy walked in and said “I have flowers here for Terri?” and everyone in here went “Aww!”
Nora’s here and brought bubbles that match the shop
Someone gave me their CV
Half an hour to go — it’s gone so quickly!
These people are going to open a new bookshop too!
Sold a Sofia Coppola Archive! (Only one left now)
AND WE’RE DONE FOR DAY ONE!
I’ve sold ten books an hour!?
Home timeeeee
(I am so tired.)
